미국사람들중 TV를 가장 많이 보는 사람들은 노년층과 고등학교 중퇴자들이라고 한다.
2011 노동부의 설문통계자료에 따르면 남자는 하루평균 2.99시간, 여자는 2.53시간동안 TV를 시청하는 것으로 나타나고 있는데 어린아이들이 TV를 많이 시청하는 것으로 여겨지지만 실제로는 나이가 먹어갈수록 더 많은 시간을 TV시청에 할애하고 있다/
또한 교육을 덜 받은 사람들일수록 TV시청시간이 많은 것으로 나타나고 있다. 대학졸업자들의 경우 평균시청시간은 1.76시간인데 반하여 고등학교 중퇴자들의 경우 3.78시간으로써 2배이상이다.
이는 교육을 덜 받은 사람들일수록 여가를 위한 시간이 상대적으로 많지만 이를 생산적으로 활용하지 않는다는 것을 말해준다.
