경기둔화에 따라 소비행태로 달라지고 있다. 노동통계청의 데이타에 따르면 소비자들은 의류나 외식등에 대한 지출을 줄이는 대신 자동차개솔린이나 의료비에 더 많은 지출을 하고 있는 것으로 나타나고 있다.
2007-2010 기간동안 연평균가계지출액은 4만8,109달러로써 3.1%가 줄어들었다고 한다. 해당 기간동안 물가상승율은 5.2%를 기록하였다는 점을 감안시 실질가계소비는 거의 8%가 감소한 꼴이다. 경기침체와 이어지는 경기둔화에 따라 소비자들은 여러가지로 허리띠를 졸라매고 있는 형국이다.
시절이 좋았던 2003-2006 기간동안 가계소비는 8.2%나 증가한 바 있다. 그당시 주류소비는 19%나 증가하였고 가구구매는 13%가 늘었는데 이후 2007-2010 기간중에는 해당 분야의 소비는 16%이상 줄어들었다.
